[edit] OVERVIEW
Building A Solid Foundation is a Christian, 501(c)(3) designated nonprofit organization working directly with adults in high-poverty communities to end homelessness, especially for those who struggle with drug/alcohol addiction. Our services revolve around our 180 day, Transitional Housing program which we offer to women and men in the following three regions:
- Bay Area, California
- Los Angeles, California
- San Diego, California
Recognizing the need of women and single mothers in the communities we serve, Building A Solid Foundation also offers an Urgent Shelter Assistance program, geared towards providing an immediate, safe place for women and single mothers who need up to 5 days of emergency accommodations.
[edit] MISSION
Building A Solid Foundation enables adults in three high-poverty, urban regions in California– serving primarily those struggling with homelessness and/or drug/alcohol addiction – to create positive, sustainable life change through our transitional housing program.
[edit] HISTORY
Building A Solid Foundation was incorporated in July of 2003 and began by servicing the Bay Area with the first facility located in Oakland. We acquired our second transitional housing facility several months later in San Diego. From the start, all of us here at BSF have had a singular vision: we work, by the grace of God, to end homelessness. Our begining has been a humble one and our task remains as challenging as ever.
Through the continued support of the communities we serve, BSF opened its third transitional housing facility near downtown Los Angeles in October of 2004. Our ability to serve the Bay Area also grew with the addition of a second housing facility in Oakland in December of 2004.
2004 also marked the emergence of our Urgent Shelter Assistance For Women and Single Mothers program. We recognized the opportunity to provide an immediate and safe place for women and single mothers to utilize in times of need. BSF now provides up to 5 days of emergency shelter. Coupled with our 180 day Transitional Living program and other avenues of community service, BSF strives to be an impactful and compassionate member of the communities we serve.
