[edit] Introduction
Our mission is to bring the saving, life-changing power of Jesus Christ to the hurting in San Francisco. We believe that there is a solution for homelessness that does not lie in just outer changes, but more importantly in inner changes. We believe God can bring hope to the hopeless, healing to the sick, confidence to those who have none left. We rely not on our own strength, but in the power of God to transform lives through His church.
Pastor Evan received the vision for the Homeless Church while he was still pastoring in a church with four walls in Orland, California. The new church was to be not an outreach, but a church of and for the homeless. There were four parts to the vision:
- A church on the street, of homeless people.
- Made up of small "pocket bodies" wherever people live.
- Support trans-denominationally
- Farther down the line, a warehouse where worship and preaching will be constantly going on, with services available like food, showers, laundry, shopping cart check-in.
[edit] Grace Healing Home
3230 San Bruno Avenue
Shelter for men who are sick and/or in recovery. There is very limited space and availability, and inquiries should be made directly with Pastor Prosser.
[edit] Coffee and Food Services
A mobile team is on the streets almost every day distributing coffee and soup to the homeless. A regular distribution is weekday mornings at Barnvelt and Jerrold, opposite the Paper Rush recycling center. Also, Thursday evenings from 9PM to midnight a caravan of cars patrols SF to give food and coffee to the homeless.
[edit] Church Services
Weekday Bible studies are offered at Grace Healing Home. The church also has a weekly outdoor service at the Embarcaderro near Justin Herman Plaza, Sundays at 10:30. Breakfast follows the service. There is another service at 3:00 Sunday afternoons, outdoors or on the blue Homeless Church bus, at La Raza Park (near 26th and Potrero). Dinner follows the service.
[edit] Holy Ghost Service Center
The church is in the middle of planning for a large scale facility at Pier 70 (20th st at Third st). The site will be run by the homeless for the homeless, and will include food, showers, some health care facility, and referrals to long-term care. Most importantly it will be a place for people to come and relax and fellowship together.
