Larkin Drop-In Center

LSYS offers an integrated program to address both mental health and substance abuse issues. It is designed to be comprehensive, fulfilling individual needs through any combination of mental health and substance abuse assessments, individual and group counseling, emergency mental health assistance, psychiatric evaluation, and referrals to community providers for longer term care. For youth who also need treatment for substance abuse, LSYS offers assessments and intervention activities designed to encourage engagement in longer term alcohol or drug abuse treatment.

The Drop-In Center offers Young people showers, Nutritious food, basic medical attention, laundry services and clothing, and a safe haven to give them respite from violence and exploitation. In addition, the Drop-In Center contains a fully accredited school where kids can continue their education, and offers recreational activities where they can connect with peers and adults. Through groups, outings and one-on-one conversations, Drop-IN staff support youth with a variety of special needs such as education, family reunification issues, legal matters, and sexual identity issues. It also serves as a portal to further services. Each new visitor to the Center receives an individual assessment to determine what other services such as medical care, counseling, or housing would best suit their immediate and long-term needs.

LSYS also provides shelter for youth and HIV services.

Through a range of housing options - from emergency shelters to longer-term housing - LSYS offers at-risk youth the basic necessities as well as an environment of support, stability, and security. Because the needs of younger youth (aged 12-17) differ from those of older youth (aged 18-24), each Larkin Street housing facility offers age-appropriate support to accommodate each stage of their journey, keeping them on track toward rejoining their families or progressing toward self-sufficiency.
