[edit] Homeless Rights Project
In conjunction with the Coalition on Homelessness, the Lawyers' Committee runs a program for homeless or low-income individuals who recieve infraction citations for poverty citations, e.g. sitting, sleeping, camping, or drinking in public. The program matches volunteer attorneys with homeless clients and gives them the legal representation necessary to help get the citations and warrants dismissed so clients can access the services they need to exit homelessness.
The clients should bring their citations to the Coalition on Homelessness at 468 Turk Street Mondays from 9-12pm and Wednesdays from 9-12pm & 1-5pm.
[edit] Legal Services Clinic
For all types of civil, non fee-generating legal matters including landlord/tenant cases. Serves low-income people in the Bay Area with an emphasis on S.F. residents. Wheelchair accessible.
There are three factors which determine whether the Clinic can help that person:
- The type of legal problem
- The income of the person seeking services
- The availability of a volunteer attorney
The Clinic accepts cases in which someone is being sued or having some other action taken against them. Examples include: consumer debt, eviction, uninsured motorist accidents, government benefits, school expulsion or suspension.
The Clinic cannot accept cases that involve criminal matters, bankruptcies, family law issues (divorce, child custody), requests to sue someone for money (such as a personal injury case), requests to evict tenants, business disputes.
The Clinic was established to help individuals and families who have too much income to qualify for free legal aid, but who do not make enough to hire an attorney.
