San Francisco Homeless Resource is a collaborative website for homeless advocates, providers, government and others in San Francisco. The wiki is a new evolution of how all parties helping the homeless can get together and share information efficiently and quickly.
The site can be updated by any user, so everyone can add and update information -- allowing much greater efficiency in serving the homeless community in San Francisco.

* ADVISORY! July 1 brings many changes to the homeless services landscape in San Francisco. Please be aware as we update SFHomeless.net with changes in services for the various agencies. Check the history tab on pages to see when the last update was. As for Shelter/CHANGES changes, here is the government's flyer.
* NEW PAGE! July 2009 Service Changes and Closures has been created to allow people to see what is changing and closing on July 1. There are many changes affecting service that need to be logged and then we can get the word out.
* NEW WIKI! Our sister site LAHOMELESS.ORG has officially launched! Check it out! Let's spread the news to other cities to get a homeless resources wiki in every town. Contact David Beall if you want to be the next city.
* NATIONAL COVERAGE! -5/30/09 - Wall Street Journal - Phred Dvorak "On the Street and On Facebook: The Homeless Stay Wired" Charles Pitts and the Homeless Village Yahoo Group get national attention along with other San Francisco homeless connecting to the internet.
* NEW CATEGORY, STIPEND OPPORTUNITY! - A new category has been created to bring attention to services that can help the homeless financially: Stipend Opportunity. And the first agency assigned the new category is the Speakers Bureau. Check it out!
* THE COMING INFORMATION CRISIS! - With massive cuts in services already occurring, and more to occur with City cuts, State cuts, fundraising losses due to foundation cuts and corporate cuts and donor belt-tightening, homeless service providers everywhere will be cutting services, staff, and possibly even closing. This will create massive chaos for case workers trying to help clients and figure out what surviving non-profit can take up the slack. NOW IS THE TIME to seriously promote the use of SFHomeless.net as an information solution. If the government and community were to make it a point to build this site into a current index of services, together with improvements in neighborhood service allocation, and even building some of the FAQs that will pop-up, we can avert the information crisis, even if we can't avert the service crisis. Please do what you can you promote the use of SFHomeless.net in your organization. We are currently working on NEW training videos and documentation for everyone's use. Thank you!
* NEW FACEBOOK GROUP! - SFHomeless.net Homeless Resource Wiki Facebook Group - We will use this Facebook group to promote SFHomeless.net. Please join and tell people you know who would be interested in joining.
* NEW E-MAIL GROUP! - Homeless Village Yahoo Group - founded and managed by members of the San Francisco homeless community, this group aims to be the most current on events affecting homeless, including SRO meetings. The focus will be San Francisco, but we'll talk about other places as well.
* NEW PROJECT! - A new page has been created Housing Category Reorganization Project 2009 to describe the changes that will be made in the near future to the housing listings on SFHomeless.net. The administrators and hopefully some dedicated volunteers from the public will scour all the existing housing pages, and add new categories to make it easier for people to find appropriate housing and shelter. The old categories will remain in place for archival needs, but new categories will hopefully bring more users to SFHomeless.net so they can get the help they need.
* NEW PAGE! Help for Non-Profits and CBOs -- we're trying to collect good ideas and money saving tips and grant opportunities. Please add anything you know to the page that can help other agencies that are struggling.
* Please note! the Shelter Monitoring Committee will be meeting at City Hall, Room 421 in 2009. See 2009 schedule below on this page (they have a box on right near bottom).
* NEW! We're looking for stories about how SFHomeless.net has helped people. If you're a government worker, service provider, advocate, homeless individual, or member of the general public, and you have used SFHomeless.net to find or do something that helped someone, please e-mail David Beall with any story you have. You can remain anonymous if you wish, but please state your general job title or situation. Thank you!
* NEW! IMPORTANT!! Oshun Women's Drop-in Center has relocated to 211-13th st, Buster's old location. The current services are on the wiki page. They are still providing emergency 24 hour drop-in services for women.

We have received lots of feedback from all of you saying how much you love SFHomeless.net! But this site isn't about us making some changes here and there, but about you coming forth with your knowledge and wisdom and sharing it!!
Wish 1: More people pressing EDIT on the top of the agency page they're visiting -- and then adding useful info, or new info, or changed info, etc.!
Wish 2: Please contribute to the How Do You - Main Portal. In it you the expert share with others how to do something that you probably explain to others all day long anyway. I hear from people all the time how they don't know common procedures, and don't know where to go to get some info. PLEASE HELP by writing down the answers to these questions and then you might not have to answer them on phone so much because this page will turn into this great resource that people will naturally check first before calling you!
Wish 3: Please contribute to the newly created Homelessness Policy Overview page. There is so much policy angst in this City with all the different approaches to all the different areas of how we help the homeless, that we need a place to write it all down to properly educate ourselves. And not just for the provider community but the public too. They need a place beside the media to get arguments for-and-against these different proposals that seem to come out every week.
Wish 4: Another plea for Wish 1. It's easy to EDIT info on a page. Click on EDIT on the top of every page and a Word-like page opens up, and you change the info as easy a editing a Word doc. Then press SAVE. You're done. Easy. You've contributed! Thank you!
Wish 5: Please contribute to the newly created Neighborhood Portal Project. This is going to be awesome when it's done. All we need are volunteers to help add Neighborhood categories to existing agency pages. Then one day soon someone needing a service in their neighborhood can click and get help because a client is more willing to go some place local to them instead of going into the Tenderloin or Civic Center where a lot of services seem to be congested.

a Network for SF Homeless (Providers & Advocates)
Welcome! The final agencies from the HAP Manual have been uploaded, and now it's time for the community to start using the resources, and to improve them. We want this site to be a new level of service for the homeless by providing greater knowledge in a more efficient way. The potential for the site and its uses is limitless, and we hope to use the larger wiki community and its resources to add more to SFHOMELESS.NET in the future. If you have any ideas or suggestions to add new features, please contact the administrators.

SUPPORTIVE HOUSING NETWORK
DATE CHANGE!!! The Supportive Housing Network (SHN) meets every 3rd Thursday, 3-5pm, at the Dorothy Day Community Room located at 54 McAllister.
SHN is a network made up of direct service providers, resident leaders and property managers in Supportive Housing in SF. Our goal is to increase education on SH issues in efforts to lower the rates of evictions in SF’s Supportive Housing.
We have a training component at each of our meetings—usually a speaker invited to share their expertise on a related topic. Supportive Housing Network

TEN YEAR PLAN IMPLEMENTATION COUNCIL
The TYPIC monitors the City's Ten Year Plan to End Homeless and works with government agencies, the Local Homeless Coordinating Board, and other groups and the public to ensure that the directives of the plan are being implemented.
The council meets at quarterly meetings with the Policy Cluster, LHCB, and Shelter Monitoring Committee. As of 2008 the council no longer has public bi-weekly meetings, and has changed its meeting place to Room 305 at City Hall.

The Local Homeless Coordinating Board is the lead entity for the San Francisco Continuum of Care. The Local Board works to ensure a unified homeless strategy that is supported by the Mayor, the Board of Supervisors, City departments, nonprofit agencies, people who are homeless or formerly homeless and the community at large. All efforts are aimed at permanent solutions, and the range of services is designed to meet the unique and complex needs of individuals who are threatened with or currently experiencing homelessness. SAN FRANCISCO HOMELESS SERVICE PROVIDERS' NETWORK
Service providers and advocates meet from 10:00 A.M. through Noon on the 3rd Thursday of each month to network, discuss issues, and confront challenges facing the homeless community.
New Meeting Place! ARNETT WATSON APARTMENTS Program Room at 650 Eddy Street between Polk and Larkin. Please ring buzzer to be let in and sign in at the front desk.

SHELTER MONITORING COMMITTEE
The Shelter Monitoring Committee provides the Mayor, the Board of Supervisors, the Local Homeless Coordinating Board, the public, and any other appropriate agency with accurate, comprehensive information about the conditions in and operations of shelters and resource centers. The 13-member body meets monthly to hear concerns and suggestions about City-funded shelters and resource centers and conducts announced and unannounced site visits.
Please note! the Shelter Monitoring Committee will be meeting at City Hall, Room 421 in 2009. Please post for clients and members of the public. Committee Meetings begin at 10:00 AM. For more information about the meeting or to request a copy of the agenda, please call 415.255.3642.
