Providence Baptist Church has an emergency shelter site to sleep homeless men, women and families. The site houses up to 125 homeless clients nightly; During the winter period, December 1 through March 31, it also operates a shelter at the Bethel AME Church site, which houses 25 families nightly.

The City and County continues to provide funding for the programs. In-kind support comes from auxiliaries and families from the Providence Baptist Church, and other local churches in the way of food and sometimes clothing.

Due to the increased number for the homeless population, the City and County of San Francisco’s Human Services Agency has requested that capacity be increased to 140. The Providence Foundation is currently searching for a facility that can be converted into permanent supportive housing.

Providence Shelter is located in San Francisco District 10. It currently is a destination shelter listed in the CHANGES system.

Accessible by MUNI Bus Lines 15 Third Street, 23 Monterey, 24 Divisadero, 44 O’Shaughnessy, and 54 Felton
